I've also struggled with alcohol addiction, so I feel even MORE camaraderie with you now. I find your writing to be incredibly inspirational, I get psyched every time I check your blog and see that you've written. Keep it up, the battle(s) is worth it. I am so glad to hear you are in treatment and working through some of the additional layers. I've been in treatment a number of times myself, and each time I chip away as much as I can, but it there always seems to be more underneath influencing my behaviors than I realized. It's a tough path and I wish you all the luck in your journey.

For what it's worth, the treatment center I found to be the most helpful was one where I was in a program with people who were there for very different reasons than me and came from very different lives. However, what I realized while I was there is that at the end of the day we were all experiencing the same emotions and the behaviors we were engaging in, though different, were ultimately to deal with he same underlying issues. There was so much more commonality in our human experience than I ever could have realized. In fact because I felt so different from the rest in my coping behaviors, it reduced the comparison piece of the physical aspect/severity of disease and made it easier for me to relate to their emotional experiences in life and learn from them instead. I'm not sure if I am making any sense, but ultimately trying to find the commonalities with everyone I meet in this world is something that I have found to be one of the most effective ways for me to connect, relate and draw strength from others. We have so much to learn form each other, even if at first we feel like we have nothing in common.

Anyway, best of luck in treatment and thanks for blogging about your progress when you can. It truly does help me more than you could ever realize! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
